Welcome to our NOTEBOOK!

Hello and welcome! Thank you for visiting. We’re excited to share this new FREE resource with you. Now that The Tulip Workshop and The Lily Workshop have been published and we’re working on ideas for a third course, we’re feeling like we have some time to start sharing more of the efforts and research that are happening on our farms.

Here is a quick introduction to our work:

Emily von Trapp

Emily has been growing flowers since her childhood on her family nursery property in Waitsfield, Vermont. It is a beautiful plot of land, adjacent to family dairy pastures. Quintessential Vermont! If you every have an opportunity to visit Von Trapp Greenhouses on one of their open garden days, you should definitely take advantage of it! The public side of the nursery is closed, but occasionally the family opens the display garden for visitors and it is not to be missed! Emily and her team grow and prepare flowers for a large CSA program and a number of local independent grocers throughout Vermont. Learn more about Emily’s business, Von Trapp Flowers, here!

Linda D’Arco

Linda’s farm is just over Lake Champlain in the Northern Adirondack Park of Upsate New York. Her 2.5 acre flower farm is small in scale, but high in yield! Linda and her team grow flowers for pick up and for local retailers, but their primary focus is on research and development of various small scale farmer-florist methods. Little Farmhouse Flowers maintains a robust knowledge-based monthly subscription program with weekly content delivered to members around the world and several other on-demand online programs. Little Farmhouse offers a full course on growing cold climate roses for production and a mini course to help farmer-florists add fresh flower shipping to their business services. The team has other educational program under development, so be sure to check out the website. Little Farmhouse also offers wholesale bulbs and bare roots with low quantity minimums to help growers on their way.

Karissa joined the The Tulip Workshop in 2022 to help with tech support and customer service. Karissa was part of the production crew for The Lily Workshop and she grows both tulips and lilies at Little Farmhouse. Karissa has a background in chemistry and customer relations. She is a dedicated veggie gardener at home, too! Karissa plays a valuable supportive role for both Tulip Workshop and Lily Workshop students.
